Statement by the Management of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, on the Ukraine Crisis

The management of the Faculty of Arts expressly condemns Russian aggression against independent and free Ukraine and stands with its colleagues, friends, and citizens of the country whose lives are being destroyed by enemy troops since early this morning.

Charles University Supports Free and Independent Ukraine

The management of CU, and the Board of the Academic Senate of CU wish to express solidarity with Ukraine and the hope that current developments escalating in the country will be resolved by peaceful means. CU FA endorses the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and unequivocally condemns the violation of the territorial sovereignty by the Russian Federation.

The Largest Embalming Cache Ever Found in Egypt Unearthed at Abusir

For more than three decades, the Czech Institute of Egyptology has been exploring a cemetery dating to the late Dynasty 26 or the early Dynasty 27 (the second half of the 6th century B.C.E.). A unique embalming cache has been unearthed with a total of 370 large pottery storage jars and several smaller artefacts, it is one of the largest finding from Ancient Egypt.

On Wednesday, 26 January 2022, Professor Milena Králíčková – elected in the autumn by the Academic Senate as the next head of Charles University – was appointed by President Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle. Prof. Králíčková will take office at the beginning of February.

Faculty of Arts Welcomes New Fulbright Visiting Scholar: Prof. David Hicks

Prof. David Hicks will spend the summer term 2021/22 at the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at CU FA as Fulbright Visiting Scholar. He will be teaching two seminars: American and Canadian Literature: Civil War to WWII, and Early American Women Writers: The Origins of Feminism.
