PhD Candidate at CU FA, Marta Mezhlumyan, Is the Co-Editor of Armenian Diaspora in Dynamics

This publication is devoted to the analysis of historical experience and modern trends in the development of Armenians in some countries. The publication is the result of cooperation between the Institute of Ethnology at CU FA and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

CU FA Hosted Debate with Leading Investigators of War Crimes in Ukraine

In November 2022, the Department of East European Studies at CU FA and the Prague Civil Society Centre held the debate “Fight for Justice: A talk with Ukrainian lawyers documenting Russia’s war crimes.” The whole session was recorded and the recording is freely accessible online.

The Article of the Year 2022 in Aesthetics Was Published by CU FA

Simon Høffding, Carlos Vara Sánchez, and Tone Roald were awarded for their article “Being Moved by Art: A Phenomenological and Pragmatist Dialogue” published in Estetika: The European Journal of Aesthetics. The journal is published by CU FA in collaboration with Helskinki University Press. The award is organized by the Finnish Society for Aesthetics since 2015.

Students Evaluate the Courses of the Winter Semester

The anonymous electronic evaluation of courses takes place from 9 to 22 January 2023. The results including comments are to be published at the beginning of February.

A Deep Fascination with the Land of the Rising Sun

Associate Professor Jan Sýkora from the Institute of Asian Studies at CU FA has been to Japan on countless occasions. The most influential stay was at Saga University on the island of Kyushu, where he studied between 1991 and 1994.

The Operation of the Building in Na Příkopě 29 Will Be Limited

Due to an energy-saving reason, the operation of the Česká Spořitelna building will be reduced from 23 December 2022 to 12 February 2023. Though only slightly heated, its premises will remain accessible. Employees may briefly come in to deal with paperwork, but staying there throughout the working hours will not be possible due to the cold temperature.

The Centre for the Study of the Holocaust and Jewish Literature at CU FA Co-Organised an International Conference on the Terezín Declaration

The three-day conference, which was held at the beginning of November at the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic, addressed the current rise of antisemitism, xenophobia, and racism, highlighted the role of education, and called for redressing the wrongs of the Holocaust. The event also focused on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

Schwa Student Society Organizes Charity Book Sale

Traditional Christmas book sale co-organized by the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at CU FA will take place on 8 December from 2–7 pm in front of P104. Anyone can donate books on 5–7 December in the English and Romance Studies Library during its opening hours. All money raised will go to the People in Need charity. All books are welcome.

Daniel E. Freeman: Mysliveček’s Excellence

The 18th century Czech composer Josef Mysliveček is at last getting the attention he deserves, says acclaimed American musicologist for Forum Radio. If so, it is in no small part thanks to Freeman’s own extensive research into the composer’s music and life that has been recently translated by Petra Johana Poncarová from the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at CU FA.
