East and Central European Studies (ECES) is an interdisciplinary program designed specifically for international undergraduate students wanting to study in Prague at the Faculty of Arts. The program offers courses in the following six academic fields during the fall, spring, and summer terms: Literature, Art and Culture, History, Sociology and Psychology, Economics and Politics, and Languages. Since 1992, ECES has provided a dynamic learning environment for international undergraduate students in the heart of Europe.
The ECES program holds its own classes taught in English for non-degree seeking students at the Faculty. Class sizes remain small in order to accommodate an advantageous learning environment. All ECES courses are worth 3 US credits, and grades are given on an A-F scale in order to make credit transfer for North American students as simple as possible. Students are also provided with a thorough orientation period, a pre-semester Czech course, day trips within the Czech Republic, and support of English-speaking staff. Students may choose to participate in optional day and weekend excursions, as well as activities and cultural events in Prague. ECES students are housed in the Komenského dormitory alongside other Czech and international students, and have a on-site residential coordinator available in case of emergencies or questions. ECES staff also provide 24-hour emergency assistance, visa application assistance, airport pick on the official arrival day each term, and volunteering opportunities in Prague.
