Sir Geoffrey Nice: Discussion about the Concept of People’s Tribunals

Geoffrey Nice has been working on cases of genocides, violations of human rights, and crimes against humanity. The lecture and discussion will be held at the main building of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, in room 104 on Monday, 14 February, from 3 pm to 4:30 pm.

Lecture and discussion on the occasion of Prague visit of Sir Geoffrey Nice, British barrister and prosecutor in cases of international violations of human rights. He will introduce the concept of „people’s tribunals“, will discuss the issue of genocide on general level, and eventually will present in detail the dealings of the Uyghur Tribunal which in December 2021 came to a conclusion that the government of the People’s Republic of China has committed genocide against the Uyghurs via birth control and sterilization measures, besides confirming evidence of crimes against humanity, torture and sexual abuse.

Chaired by Ondřej Klimeš from the Oriental Institute who lectures Uyghur language at the Faculty of Arts. The event is organized by the Faculty of Arts Centre for Strategic Regions, in collaboration with Forum For Human Rights, Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences, and project Sinopsis.
