On 2 March 2016, Jitro Publishing and the Centre for Irish Studies, Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures, launched the anthology of Irish short stories entitled Muž, který vybouchl (The Man Who Exploded). The anthology contains short stories by various twentieth-century Irish authors, including Brian Ó Nualláin/Flann O’Brien, Liam Ó Flaithearta, Máirtín Ó Cadhain, and Biddy Jenkinson, which have been translated directly from Irish into Czech by a team of translators associated with the Centre for Irish Studies. The project was organised by Dr Radvan Markus, who is a lecturer in Irish language and literature at the Centre for Irish Studies, and who also edited the anthology.
The festive launch was organised in cooperation with the Irish Embassy in Prague as part of the international festival Seachtain na Gaeilge (The Week of Irish). His Excellency Mr Charles Sheehan, Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic, attended the event, gave the opening address in which he highlighted the importance of supporting the Irish language and literature, and read an extract from one of the short stories in the Irish original.
The audience had the opportunity to hear two of the short stories read by the translators, and enjoy live music by the band Svaťa Kotas a (ne)přátelé.
