Presentation of Two Books: Biopower in Putin’s Russia & When Left Moves Right

Department of East European Studies at CU FA and Boris Nemtsov Academic Centre for the Study of Russia cordially invites you to a presentation of two books, introduced by their authors.

Biopower in Putin’s Russia

Authors: Andrey Makarychev, Sergei Medvedev

Delving into the intricate concept of biopower and its influence on Russian society from surveillance to propaganda, this book examines how the Russian state wields control over its citizens, using an increasing number of regulatory mechanisms to discipline and constrain the human body. You will gain crucial insights into the nature of biopolitics and the challenges facing Russian society today.

When Left Moves Right: The Decline of the Left and the Rise of the Populist Right in Postcommunist Europe

Author: Maria Snegovaya

Exploring the electoral shifts in postcommunist Europe and the rise of right-wing populism through insightful analysis and empirical data, this book uncovers the roots of this phenomenon, and offers policy recommendations about ways for the left-wing parties to go back to their original platforms and re-attract traditional electorates, therefore curtailing the rise of populism.

All authors will be present to discuss their works personally.
