The Student Council Announces the Jan Palach Writing Contest

The main theme for this year is “The Light of Hope,” and the submissions should refer to one of the following topics:

  • How to maintain hope?
  • Finding hope.
  • A thank you.
  • What is hope?

Submissions of the university and high-school students are evaluated separately and are further divided into four categories:

  • Poetry (no length limit),
  • story (3,600 to 18,000 characters),
  • letter (1,800 to 5,400 characters),
  • essay (3,600 to 18,000 characters).

During evaluation, correct grammar will be taken into consideration, and the submissions have to be in the right format as well, e.g., length and specificity of the genre. Originality is also taken into account, and an honourable mention may be awarded.

The submissions should be in .doc or .docx formats and sent to stradaffuk@gmail.com. Do not send the files signed in any way. Write your name and surname in the body of the email along with the institution that you study at (please write the name of your faculty as well). The submissions should bear an original title (e.g., not “Writing contest,” etc.). The submission should be a non-published original work that has not been submitted yet to any other contest.

There is no limit for submissions per author, but in case of more submissions, each one has to fall into a different category.

The submission will be evaluated anonymously by a committee consisting of university students. By submitting your work to the contest, you give consent that your work can be published under your name, along with the personal information in your submission email. The best works will be published, if possible. The results will be posted on the Student Council of CU FA website and social media accounts.

Later, a physical award ceremony and reading of the works will also be held. The authors of the best works will be awarded prizes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please write an email to stradaffuk@gmail.com.
