Therapy Dogs and Hippotherapy at Faculty of Arts, Charles University

Since the opening of the main building of CU FA after the tragic events of December 2024, students and staff can regularly meet Snow, a therapy dog, in the corridors. The range of therapy animals and their human companions is gradually expanding.

At the moment, Snow and Stella offer their therapeutic support:

Snow is a female Bernese Mountain Dog. She started her work in the first week of the summer term and has remained there based on positive feedback until today. Snow also assists on an individual request basis, such as in the recovery of injured people and in the return to studying and buildings for those who need more individual support.

When and where: usually Mondays in the main building of CU FA, other days and locations on request.

Stella, full name Northern Star “Stella” from a village called Mokrá Hora, is a female flat coated retriever. She started helping at the faculty in April, combining her work with regular interventions at a Prague facility for the elderly.

When and where: usually Tuesdays and Thursdays in the main building of CU FA.

Monty will be coming to the main building in April. Monty is a minihorse in hippotherapy training. He will be at the main building on Wednesday, 17 April, and Thursday, 25 April 2024.

We are proud of our ongoing hippotherapy and dog therapy programs at the faculty. Based on feedback, these activities positively impact the psychological well-being of our students and staff affected by the tragic events in the building.

The contact person for questions and “requests” for animal therapy is Michaela Slussareff, Vice Dean for External Relations and Lifelong Education.
