In the world, authoritarian regimes always target the same groups of people. They trample upon their rights, and their lives are amongst the first to be destroyed. The changes in the social frames of mind often begin imperceptibly: as condescending debates about human needs that are “not so important” and as caustic remarks that “do not harm anybody.” Even in Europe, the path towards a codified intolerance can be surprisingly short.
The Faculty of Arts, Charles University, is flying a rainbow flag in support of the LGBT+ community during Pride Month because equality, freedom, and respect are not values that would appear in the public space once and stay there. It is necessary to introduce them to it continuously.
