The CUFA Centre for Irish Studies introduces a new Dublin literary museum for the 21st century. In a live stream from Prague and Dublin, curators from MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland and the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art will be discussing the presentation of literature in an art space. The event will showcase a recently launched digital platform focused on contemporary Irish writing, and will feature readings by four celebrated authors and their Czech translators.
“Our intention is to show our academic community and the Czech readers what an attractive museum of literature may look like, one that operates not only in the conventional space of a building but has also cultivated a confident presence in the digital world. We have teamed up with one of the most dynamic Czech galleries, the DOX Centre, for the occasion, as apart from the visual arts, the DOX focuses also on the presentation of writing, and generally on opening new worlds to its audiences.
We have prepared a tasting from the extremely rich scene that is contemporary Irish literature, focused on celebrated authors who are relatively unknown in the Czech Republic yet, and we would also like to introduce a unique online source of information about one hundred books by contemporary writers, poets and playwrights that MoLI has launched in partnership with University College Dublin, which is intended for students and Irish and international readers alike. Since the event cannot take place with the participants and audience being present face to face, it will be broadcast from the appropriately named Gulliver airship at the DOX,“ says the event coordinator, Professor Ondřej Pilný.
