With grave concern, we are following the interventions against universities and other acts of violence committed by the military and security forces in Burma (Myanmar). Independent higher education is the key component of a free society; occupation of universities and actions against their students and employees, therefore, always mean in real and symbolic terms a significant threat to the fundamental values. We support the right of all citizens of Burma to peacefully protest against the carried-out coup d’état condemned by the Czech Republic, European Union, and numerous other countries.
