Professor Jan Čermák received the award for the outstanding outcomes of his research in the areas of historical linguistics and philology, especially in Old, Middle and Early Modern English, and of literature of the Old English (700–1100) and Middle English (1100–1500) period. Professor Čermák’s acclaimed edition of Kalevala was also mentioned during the ceremony.
The awards of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports for higher education, research and development were presented by Kateřina Valachová, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and by the Chairman of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Milan Štech. The ceremony took place on 1 December 2015 in the Senate of the Czech Republic.
Professor Čermák is a member of the Department of English Language and ELT Methodology at the Faculty of Arts.
